Biography

Penélope Quesada was born in Lima, Peru and began studying Flute at the National Conservatory of Music of Peru. (She won her first Flute as a winner of a competition offered by the International Flute Festival in the year 1992.) She later moved to the United States and continued her studies at the University of Louisville School of Music in the year 2003. After graduating in 2005 with a Bachelors of Arts she continued studying her Master of Arts in Music Performance as a student of Kathy Karr (First Flute of the Louisville Orchestra).

Complimenting her studies, Penélope Quesada has been an active participant of the International Flute Festivals in Lima Peru receiving lessons under renowned Flutist such as Gaspar Hoyos, Trevor Wye, Angeleita Floyd, Wissam Boustany and Cathy Collinge among others.
Penelope Quesada made her debut as a soloist with the Trujillo Symphonic Orchestra and the Orchestra of the National Conservatory as a winner of the Concerto Competition in Peru.

Complimenting her studies, Penélope has been a member of the Lima Philharmonic Orchestra, National Conservatory Orchestra, Wind Symphony , New Music Ensemble and Symphonic Orchestra at University of Louisville.
Penélope Quesada is particularly interested in supporting the performance of contemporary and Latin American music for what she is a member of the group "Aire Andino", a group that performs traditional and contemporary Latin American music.

Penélope had her first radio appearance at National Public Radio in the program "Homefront" promoting music and composers from Latin America.

Originally from Perú emigrated to the U.S in the year 1998. She has been playing Flute for several years giving several recitals in auditoriums in Lima and playing with the Trujillo Symphonic Orchestra and the Lima Philharmonic. She was a student of the Lima Music Conservatory and received her Bachelors of Music from the University of Louisville. Now, she is working on her Masters in Music Performance. At University of Louisville she has been playing with Wind Ensemble, New Music Ensemble and the Orchestra of University of Louisville. Penélope also performs with "Aire Andino" a musical group that promote music from Latin-America.
