REEL ECUADOR”: THE 19TH LATIN AMERICAN FILM FESTIVAL

Since 1995, the University of Louisville has shown films from Latin American to audiences from the university and the local community. The festival has provided a forum where citizens of Kentuckiana can discuss global issues.


Reel Ecuador:” Louisville’s XIXth Latin American Film Festival showcases a group of contemporary Ecuadorian filmmakers working within the genres of feature films and documentaries. These films focus on Ecuador's contemporary issues.

The list of movies includes seven (7) feature length films and (1) documentary. The film festival oficially begins on Thursday, October 18, 2012 and runs through November 3, 2012.   A special reception will be held on opening night, October 18, at 6:30 p.m. in Gheens Science Hall and Rauch Planetarium. Film Director Fernando Mieles will be in attendance. Immediately following the reception, there will be a screening of Mieles’ work, Deported/Prometeo Deportado. Mabel Cabrera de Sánchez, producer of Zuquillo Express, will be present at the screening of the film on Saturday, November 3, at the Muhammed Ali Center.

The Spanish Section of the Department of Classical and Modern Languages from the University of Louisville, and Al Día en América, Louisville’s first Spanish newspaper, have collaborated to bring these original films to the area.  Thanks to the generosity of directors and sponsors, “Reel Ecuador” will exhibit these films free to the public.  The films will be shown at the Elaine Chao Auditorium (Ekstrom Library) and Gheens Science Hall and Rauch Planetarium on the University of Louisville’s Belknap campus.

All films are presented in their original language with English subtitles and maybe viewed at the following venues:
